Owning a big, bulky vacuum cleaner can be a pain when you have to lug it around your entire house.
If you have a staircase in your home, it’s even less fun.
It gets worse.
You have to stop every two minutes to plug the power cord into a different outlet because the cord isn’t long enough.
You might be wondering:
What if there was a vacuum that was lightweight and cordless?
The good news is, there are lots.
All of the vacuum cleaners on this page are light, cordless, and powerful.
Read on as I show you which vacuum models make my top 3.
3 Best Cordless Lightweight Vacuum Cleaners For 2019
1. Dyson V8 Absolute Stick Vacuum
In my quest to find a vacuum that did not require me to have the Incredible Hulk-like strength to keep the house clean, the Dyson V8 Absolute Cord-Free Vacuum came up time and time again.

Often regarded as one of the best cordless vacuum cleaners on the market.
I was happy to get the chance to give this a real work out and with two kids, a real workout was what this got in my house.
The first thing to note is that this does require a 4 hour charge time out of the box. To be honest, this is not bad if you know to expect it, plus I am sure your family can make a lot of mess in those four hours for you to test it with.
A single charge will give it roughly 40 minutes of powerful cleaning. However, this does have a handy motorized hard floor cleaner that you can attach, with this attached it does make it easier to vacuum a large area like the living room floor, but the battery run time does take a hit at around 25 minutes.
I have a rather thick living room carpet, but I was surprised at how much power this had and even after a “Pringles” incident, the carpet was spotless after using this.
By far though, what I loved most about this was the weight and comfort of it. I have had huge bulky vacuums in the past that not only take an age to use, they also weigh a ton and take up a ton of storage space.
Getting up and down the stairs, taking off the main attachment so I could get into the nooks and crannies of my eldest son’s bedroom was all very easy. It may seem that 40 minutes is not a lot of time to vacuum, but this stick vacuum is so fast, powerful, and allows you to be efficient, you will find that 40 minutes is more than enough time.
There is a max mode that gives you a little under 10 minutes of battery life. I had a little play around with this and let me tell you it has some serious power. If you have messy kids (or a partner) as I do, this can certainly clean up any extreme mess they make.
One thing that I think makes this one of the best lightweight vacuum cleaners on the market right now is the overall design. I know that the fact it is a very powerful cordless model that does not have a cord for you to trip over or get caught on stuff is great.

This makes keeping the house clean very easy and it takes up very little real estate in your house as well.
Another great thing about this is that my last vacuum kicked up a lot of dust and was very annoying to clean. Keeping this clean, emptying it, and not having your sinuses affected by the dust it kicks up was a very nice bonus.
The Dyson V8 Absolute Cord-Free Vacuum was fantastic. It was easy to use, very powerful and I loved not having a cable dragging behind me. If you want the best lightweight stick vacuum, this one here has to be on your shortlist.
2. Shark IONFlex 2X DuoClean Stick Vacuum
My quest for the best lightweight cordless stick vacuum led me to the Shark IONFlex 2X DuoClean.
I will be honest and say that this is a company that I get excited about when they release a new model, and to say I was sick of dragging around our old, bulky, heavy and short corded vacuum is an understatement.
When I first took this stick vacuum out of the box, I had it all assembled in mere minutes. The first big surprise was how it came with two batteries.

So the idea is that you can keep one battery in the vacuum and have the other one always charging, this way if the kids make a mess, you always have power to clean it up.
You have three different cleaning modes with this. The upright mode is your standard vacuum, well I say standard, it is much lighter and the lack of cord lets you get all around the room with ease. I have a thick carpet in the living room, but in the hall, we have hardwood floors. I thought I would have to mess with settings or change things up, but nope!
I was able to go from the carpet to the hard floors without any problems. Also, let me tell you the power of this thing is impressive. Not even the stubbornness of the Cheerios in my daughter’s carpet could stand up to this! To be honest with you, most people will stick with this mode and that is great, but it does offer more.
The Reach Mode is a godsend if you have tables, awkward couches or stuff that you simply do not want to move to vacuum under!
This mode lets you change the angle of it and is a huge reason as to why this is one of the most popular cordless vacuum cleaners.
I am sure if you have a house with a lot of nook and crannies, you will get a ton of use out of this mode.
It even comes with a smaller cleaner that you can attach to it which makes it even lighter so that you can use Above Floor Cleaning Mode!
This is for those cobwebs that spiders leave on the roof, sticky stuff the kids put on the wall and even the pet hair on the curtains! I never thought I would use this, but it is actually very handy.
While this is classed as a lightweight vacuum, it is not so lightweight that you feel it is “cheap”, you feel that you are handling a high-quality piece of kit with this.
It made vacuuming fun and the fact that it comes with two batteries mean that you will never be waiting around for it to charge. The charge time, by the way, is just a few hours which from what I have read is pretty standard with these types of vacuums.

If you are the kind of person that wants to vacuum from the top to the bottom of your house and I am talking literally, you can do that with the Shark IONFlex 2X DuoClean thanks to the different cleaning modes that it has.
3. Bissell 1985 Handheld
Looking for a more affordable lightweight cordless vacuum brought this BISSELL 1985 Hand Vacuum to my attention.
As a person who has kids who seem to be hell-bent on making not just the house a mess, but also the car!
A handheld vacuum that offers portability, but still some serious power is what I was looking for and for me, this one here ticked all the boxes.

When I opened the box, I was pretty shocked at how small this was. While small and lightweight, it does have a high quality feel to it.
It has a kind of futuristic look going for it and I thought that was cool, not cool enough to get the kids to want to vacuum, but still cool. Setting it up was as easy as taking it out of the box, charging the battery and then deciding what room to hit first.
The main vacuum head is not super large so if you have a large carpet like I do in the living room, you may think it will take an age to clean up all the cereal, chocolate and Lego pieces.
However thanks to this being pretty powerful, there is no need to vacuum the same spot over and over again. Also, the way it is so lightweight meant that I could go from the floor straight to the couches and not have to worry about a heavy bulky vacuum knocking stuff over as I did.
I never thought I would have a need for the “dusting brush” however I used this to clean high-up areas like above the doors, the curtains, and even the walls. It worked surprisingly well and got rid of that dust I was always too lazy to get a chair to stand on and get.
It does also have a really handy hose, crevice tool, and wand attachment that makes getting into those hard-to-reach areas very easy.
To be honest with you, I will get a lot of use with this in my car as it makes it so easy. I used to hate and I mean hate cleaning the car after the kids had been in there with a McDonalds or something, but this makes it nice and easy.
Pet hair is easily removed from upholstery too.
The charge time is very short, but you are only getting around 15 minutes of use. However, I will say that if you are like me and hate vacuuming and only want to bring it out when something actually needs cleaning, this handheld vacuum is actually very good.
It makes you so much more efficient and you will find that you spend far less time vacuuming, but your house is much cleaner.
I know that this may lack the “kick” that some of the more expensive lightweight cordless vacuum cleaners have, but for me, it does exactly what I need it to do.
So if you are like me and have messy kids, but hate dragging around a heavy vacuum, you will find that this handheld vacuum makes your life so much easier.
