How To Organize When You Have Too Many Toiletries

Unfortunately, it’s all too easy for bathrooms to become overrun with toiletries, and over time we tend to stockpile items and not go through them as quickly as we expect. Because we spend so little time in the bathroom throughout the day, it’s easy to forget things have gotten out of hand. Luckily, you can always regain control of your stock of toiletries.

Here’s how to organize when you have too many toiletries:

  1. Remove unnecessary toiletries.
  2. Throw out expired items.
  3. Organize your drawers’ contents into shallow containers.
  4. Use totes to organize under the sink.
  5. Add shelves for more storage space.

In the rest of this article, I will discuss the best ways to declutter your bathroom space and how to organize when you have far too many toiletries. So, if you want to learn more about how to organize your toiletries, be sure to read on.

1. Remove Unnecessary Toiletries

The first step to regaining control of your bathroom toiletries is to remove any that are unnecessary, which might include:

  • Things you never use.
  • Stuff you rarely use.
  • Items that are broken.
  • Anything you don’t know what it is.

Things like makeup can especially build up in a bathroom so it’s important to sort through your items regularly.

Now, I know this can feel a bit wasteful, but you can always donate items or sell unopened ones. Another great way to clean out some of the bathroom clutter is to move excess toiletries to a storage closet.

However, if you move them, make sure to keep them organized in a storage tote that has been labeled. Otherwise, you are just shuffling around a mess. It’s okay to store essential items for emergencies, but don’t go too crazy doing so.

Examples of useful toiletries would be toilet paper, toothpaste, or shampoo. Be sure to be honest with yourself when sorting, and if the item is no longer serving you, don’t be afraid to get rid of it.

2. Throw Out Expired Items

Now, look at removing any expired products. Sadly makeup, perfumes, and other toiletries can go bad over time, so if you happen to have a lot of old products lying around, it might be time to go through them and throw some out.

This is also a good idea because some expired products stop functioning correctly and can even pose health risks.

Many makeup, medicinal, and other products should have expiration dates on them, but you can also look up their shelf life online. This can help you to get a better idea of whether it’s time to throw the item out or not.

3. Organize Your Drawers Contents Into Shallow Containers

Another fantastic way to organize several toiletries is to acquire drawer organizers. These items allow you to easily see what is in your drawers and prevent them from becoming clogged with bathroom clutter.

Any shallow container will do the trick. You want to use shallow containers because they won’t block your drawers from sliding and you can better organize your items. The goal is to make everything more visible and for each item to have a set place.

When organizing items into your new drawer containers, do your best to place frequently used toiletries toward the front of the drawers. This will make things like retrieving your hair brush or floss much easier.

If you are more of a visual learner, interior designer Home with Marika does a great job showcasing how to organize each of your drawers effectively and in a manner that is aesthetically pleasing.

4. Use Totes To Organize Under the Sink

Using totes to keep things organized under the sink is the perfect way to get a handle on a bathroom overflowing with toiletries. There are a few different methods you can choose when using totes to stay organized.

Under the sink tote options:

  • Open tote: You can use totes without a lid to organize all your stray items under the sink, such as cleaners and hair care products. This method can be highly effective in keeping your items organized. However, if you have a lot, it can be less effective due to its inability to stack.
  • Covered tote: You might instead opt for a more sturdy tote with a lid, which is a great way to utilize your under-sink space. Place similar items in bins and label them before organizing them beneath the sink. Labeling will help you quickly retrieve items when they are needed.
  • Sliding tote: The best tote to use is a sliding tote. Now, this type will take some setup as you will need to acquire the hardware to install sliding totes or purchase ones that fit under the sink. These are the most effective because you won’t have to rearrange other totes to get the toiletries you need.

So as you can see, there are a few different methods to choose from. I personally prefer the sliding totes as you can more easily get to your under-sink items, and they are easier to keep organized.

If you don’t already have under-the-sink organizers, I recommend the Simple Trendings 2-Tier Cabinet Organizer (link to Amazon). These sorters are great because each drawer slides out, and you can easily secure your toiletries. They also come in a variety of colors.

5. Add Shelving for More Storage Space

Last but not least, another way to organize your store of toiletries is to install more shelving, which can be a great way to store your items in an appealing manner. If done correctly, your toiletries will look like a part of the decor. It’s important to note that some shelves even come with drawers or places to hang items.

Conclusion

There are many ways to organize your toiletries, but the most crucial step in the organization process is removing items you no longer use. Clutter can easily take over a bathroom, but if you use organizers and ensure every item has a place, your bathroom toiletries will look one hundred times better. Just be sure to organize things in a way you can access them when needed.
